We celebrate 20 years of ONTRAS

20 years of responsibility, development and collaboration

For 20 years, we have stood for the safe and reliable operation of our gas infrastructure. We began in 2006 with just 12 employees. Today, as a certified and independent transmission system operator, we help shape the national and European energy sector. Alongside various shareholdings, ONTRAS now includes four wholly owned subsidiaries: GEOMAGIC, VIONTA, MOVIATEC and GDMcom. We are very well connected politically and economically and actively contribute to shaping the framework conditions for our core business. We are proud of this achievement and would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has made this success possible.

This story would be unthinkable without our workforce: a highly motivated and professional team that works every day with expertise and a strong sense of responsibility. Safety is always our top priority. At the same time, our actions are shaped by a corporate culture that puts people at the centre and values the role and potential of every individual.

Today, more than 500 people work for ONTRAS. We take responsibility for them and, in doing so, make our contribution to safeguarding prosperity at our business location. Reliable framework conditions, the compatibility of work and family life, and respectful collaboration are fundamental to our long term success. Nonetheless, the safety of our colleagues remains our highest priority at all times.

Proud of what we have achieved

Over the past two decades, together with others in the sector, we have helped shape the German and European energy market. We have addressed and mastered key challenges, including the complete redevelopment of a network access model, from the first online booking procedures for annual contracts through to the introduction of hourly capacities. Our entry into cost regulation and the step by step consolidation of an initial 19 market areas into a single nationwide one were further milestones. Regulatory realignment and the ongoing development of our networks have continually challenged ONTRAS. Time and again, we have succeeded in translating new requirements into viable solutions and in consistently developing our role within the energy system.

Motivated for the future

Today, we take a holistic view of infrastructure. Alongside the safe operation of existing networks, we continue to develop our systems in a targeted manner. With a clear focus on the transformation of our energy supply, we are gradually adapting our infrastructure to renewable gases such as biomethane and hydrogen. In this way, we enable molecules to play a central role in the energy transition and contribute to the energy system of tomorrow.
