616 kilometres of pipeline for the transport of hydrogen

doing hydrogen marks the launch of a platform for the hydrogen economy in eastern Germany. This initiative connects projects set up by innovative producers, transmission system operators and large consumers. The hydrogen transport system that we will erect will provide the connecting element: we are creating a 616-kilometre-long pipeline system between the economic regions of central Germany and the Rostock region as well as the greater Berlin area and Eisenhüttenstadt. This will be used to link together hydrogen projects in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt to form an efficient hub.

Alongside Green Octopus Mitteldeutschland, doing hydrogen is one of the ONTRAS projects that have been selected by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology as IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) in 2021. Before the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology can issue the notification of funding, the projects are still being examined by the EU Commission in terms of state aid law ("notification").
