ONTRAS – VNG Gastransport GmbH is a trans-regional gas pipeline network operator in the European grid system, based in Leipzig, Germany. We operate the second-largest pressure pipeline network in the country, over 7,000 km in length, and market the available capacities at about 500 Interconnection Points.

We are one of five market area-wide network operators within the GASPOOL market area. In cooperation with more than 130 downstream network operators we organise gas transmission in our network area which extends across six German federal states, from the Baltic Sea coast to the German-Czech border, and from the German-Polish border to the centre of Germany.

About 50 specialists coordinate and are responsible for the processes to flow the gas, to market the network and provide other services for ONTRAS and others.

Some of the ONTRAS' staff also work on specific processes within the balancing group management being service operators on behalf of GASPOOL.

ONTRAS has been a pioneer for co-operations in order to make gas transmission easier and to open the gates for more competition. Examples beneath GASPOOL are the cooperation platform www.marktgebiete.com, Germany’s first online platform for supra-market area-wide gas transmission, and GATRAC, Germany’s first border-crossing cooperation platform for gas transports between the Czech Republic and Germany.
