Cross-Border Capacities

Changes in climate policy and regulatory environment induce an increasing importance of renewable resources for energy production.

The German government proclaims an annual biogas potential of 10 bcm for 2030. This corresponds to about 10% of the recent annual natural gas consumption. Each cubic meter of biogas instead of natural gas thereby reduces Germany's dependence on gas imports and, furthermore, decreases CO2 emissions throughout the burning process.

As a Transmission System Operator, we take care of the responsibility for our environment and preferentially connect biogas production and treatment plants to our gas network.

Moreover ONTRAS commits itself to transport biogas preferentially within its gas network and to pay half the costs of the necessary network connection. Beyond, ONTRAS carries the total of the expenses for operation and maintenance for the network connections of biogas production and treatment plants.

ONTRAS supports the opening up for biogas potential and transmission of biogas with services in the context of access requests and the planning and realisation of links to the network.
